Ultimate Chest Workout with Dumbbells: Best Workout You Never Did

By: Robbie Durand

I know I am going to get serious hate mail for this article but it’s the truth.  I am not a big advocate of the bench press because I believe that there are more effective exercises for the chest.  I have seen many lifters rip their pec, tear their shoulders up. It stresses the front deltoids way too much for it to be an effective exercise for building up the chest. There have been many great bodybuilders that have torn their pec benching such as Rich Gaspari, Kevin Levrone, and Toney Freeman, all victims of pec tear.  Here are a few more victims of the bench press:

Phil Baroni (MMA fighter)-Tore his pec bench pressing in 2003, had surgery and came back to the UFC 8 months later.

-The Undertaker (WWE wrestler)-Tore his pec bench pressing in 2000, had surgery and came back 3 months later.

-Sylvester Stallone (movie star)-Tore his pec bench pressing in 1979 while training for Rocky II.

I am a big believer in the dumbbell press because you can get a much better range of motion with the dumbbells.  Here are a few exercises that you can do with dumbbells to make your chest routine more interesting:

Eccentric Dumbbell Chest Press

Dumbbell Band Bench Press

Band Resisted Dumbbell Bench Press (anchored)

Eccentric Isometrics Incline Dumbbell Press

One-Arm Dumbbell Bench Press

Close Grip Dumbbell Bench Press

Decline Dumbbell Bench Press

Dumbbell Floor Press
