Green Coffee Reduces Lipogenic Genes

Researchers think the key components of green coffee beans chlorogenic acid helps regulate hunger and satiety, helping people lose weight. They also point that chlorogenic acid can regulate glucose absorption and carbohydrate metabolism as possible sources of benefit. A green coffee bean is one that has not been roasted and in its natural form. Once roasted the bean has a reduced amount of chlorogenic acid. Studies investigating the health benefits of green coffee beans have been favorable. One study published in the journal of Molecular Nutrition & Food Research showed that people who drank four daily cups green coffee beans lost 1.5 pounds of body fat in four weeks, additionally studies have shown that green coffee beans can reduce DNA damage. It has long been thought that the active ingredient caffeine has been the active ingredient in coffee, which has fat burning effects. Several studies suggest that coffee consumption helps prevent chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, liver diseases, and Parkinson’s disease.

Scientists are now discovering that coffee also contains many phenolic compounds other wise known as coffee polyphenols (CPP), such as caffeoyl quinic acids and feruloyl quinic acids. It has been reported that a 200-ml cup of roasted ground coffee supplies 73 approximately 20 to 675 mg coffee polyphenols , and the daily intake of coffee polyphenols by a coffee drinker is as much as 1 g. Researchers fed rats a high fat diet and administered coffee polyphenols to the rats, which was devoid of caffeine. Interestingly, at the end of the study found that long-term intake of coffee polyphenols significantly suppressed high-fat diet-induced visceral and liver fat accumulation, attenuated the increase in plasma glucose and insulin concentrations, and concomitantly increased energy expenditure. Some interesting discoveries were made, Histological analysis of the adipose tissue revealed that coffee polyphenols -fed mice had smaller adipocytes than high fat-fed mice without coffee polyphenols , which correlated with a lower number of infiltrating macrophages. Energy expenditure evaluated by indirect calorimetry was significantly increased in coffee polyphenols -fed mice. coffee polyphenols also downregulated lipogenic enzymes in adipose tissue as well. This study demonstrates that coffee polyphenols in coffee can have an additive effect on reducing lipogenic genes and can have added effects on fat loss.
